GIS Day is part of the National Geographic Society's Geography Action, a year-long initiative encompassing key educational achievements such as GIS Day and Geography Awareness Week. Each year has a different geographic focus to explore and understand. The 2006-2007 program theme kicks off a five-year, around-the-world curriculum series with Africa in 3-D.
