Danny Bordas of Certified Appraisals LLC received a check from one of his mortgage lending clients today and attached to the check was the following memo . . .
Dear Vendor:
As I am sure you are aware from the constant media attention, the mortgage industry is going through some unprecedented challenges. As a mortgage lender, XYZ Company is dealing with these challenges and the resulting decrease in loan activity. This decrease in volume has significantly impacted our profitability.
Because of this trend, we have had to make some tough decisions on the cost structure of the company. We are writing to you to enlist your assistance by requesting a temporary reduction in the fees you charge for services. We hope that you recognize that this is a temporary measure as we weather the current market.
We value the services you provide to XYZ Co., and hope that you will bear with us during this time. This is a normal market correction, and while the effects are far-reaching, we are confident that the strong economy and demand for housing will ultimately pull the industry forward. We look forward to celebrating our 25th anniversary in 2008 with those vendors who have stood by us and grown with us.
Thank you for your assistance.
Mr. Banker
Senior Vice President / CFO
I immediately said "Que cojones tiene este come mierda!" I wonder if I could have sent something similar to them, but from the opposite end of the spectrum, when THEY were fat and happy?!
Dear Client:
As I am sure you are experiencing record profits and increased volume due to nothing specific on your part. We are writing to inform you that our fees will be doubled, effective immediately.
We hope you recognize that this is a temporary measure and that if your record breaking profits continue another doubling of our fees may be necessary in order to "weather" the current market with you.
We value the business you provide us and will ride your coat tails as long as possible.
